🔬 What Are SS and SC Types?
Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is a genetic blood disorder affecting the shape and function of red blood cells. There are different types:
HbSS: The most severe form, known as Sickle Cell Anemia.
HbSC: A milder but still dangerous form, combining one sickle gene and one hemoglobin C gene.
Both types can cause chronic pain, fatigue, organ damage, and life-threatening crises. The difference? SS hits harder. SC is quieter, but unpredictable.
💡 How Do People with SS and SC Survive?
They survive by becoming warriors.
1. Medical Management
Regular check-ups, pain control, hydration, and access to blood transfusions or hydroxyurea are key.
2. Mental Resilience
Living with pain is draining. Depression, anxiety, and PTSD are common—but not the end. Therapy, support groups, and faith become lifelines.
3. Lifestyle Choices
Drinking water: at least 3–4 liters daily.
Avoiding cold, stress, extreme heat.
Getting proper rest, even when life demands more.
4. Advocacy & Awareness
Those who speak up save lives. Educating others, sharing stories, and fighting stigma—this turns pain into purpose.
💔 A Personal Truth
This isn’t just an article. I live this life.
Every time you see me smile, I may be hiding a silent crisis.
Every time I speak about dreams, I’ve had to fight fatigue to believe in them.
Every time I help others online, I’m doing it between hospital visits.
I carry Hemoglobin SC, a "silent variant" often misunderstood. Sometimes, I collapse without warning. Other times, I carry the world on my shoulders—because people like me have no choice but to endure.
